The Making of Mana Cacao

From the earth,
made with care.

Some ingredients grow close to home.

Others come from places where they have been cultivated for generations.

Each is chosen for its quality, character, and the experience it helps us create.

Thoughtfully sourced. Made in small batches on Kauaʻi.

What we make begins with what we choose.

Some ingredients grow here on Kauaʻi. Others come from places around the world where they have been cultivated with care for generations. We choose each one for its quality, character, and the experience it helps us create.

Closer to the Source

It begins
with cacao.

Cacao is at the heart of Mana Cacao.

Here on Kauaʻi, we work with locally grown cacao when the harvest allows, processing it ourselves in very small, seasonal batches.

Fresh pods are opened by hand. The beans are fermented, dried, and slowly transformed from something growing beneath the tropical canopy into cacao we can taste, blend, and share.

Working this close to the source has given us a deeper respect for everything that happens before cacao ever reaches our hands.

Local is something we honor, not something we exaggerate.

Kauaʻi cacao is naturally limited and seasonal. Rather than asking one place to provide everything we need, we pair what grows here with carefully selected cacao from exceptional growing regions beyond Hawaiʻi.

Cacao Beyond the Island

Chosen for origin,
not convenience.

When we source cacao beyond Hawaiʻi, we look for ingredients with traceable origins, thoughtful processing, and exceptional character.

Our cacao liquor comes from Zorzal Estate in the Dominican Republic, where cacao is transformed into pure cocoa mass with nothing added.

For cocoa powder, we use a natural, non-alkalized, ultra-high-fat cacao from Peru, selected for the richness and body it brings to our blends.

Different lands.
Different harvests.
One commitment to beautiful cacao.

These origins allow us to work with cacao for what it truly is: an agricultural ingredient shaped by soil, climate, harvest, fermentation, and the hands that tend it.

We source through trusted partners who help us remain connected to where our cacao comes from rather than treating it as an anonymous commodity.

Close to Home

Ingredients from
the islands.

Whenever possible, we love allowing the place where Mana Cacao is made to become part of what we make.

Our Golden Hour Macadamia Cacao Honey brings together Kauaʻi honey and Hawaiʻi-grown macadamia nuts.

Seasonal Kauaʻi cacao finds its way into our cacao making when local harvests are available.

For us, local sourcing begins with relationship, not a label.

It means working with what the islands genuinely offer, honoring seasonality, and allowing those relationships to grow alongside the brand.

As Mana Cacao grows, we hope to continue building deeper relationships with growers, beekeepers, farmers, and craftspeople throughout Hawaiʻi.

Not everything has to come from here.
But what does should carry a real connection to place.

Selected with Purpose

Not everything needs
to grow here.

Some of the finest ingredients for what we create come from beyond the Hawaiian Islands.

Jojoba and moringa oils.
Botanical extracts and absolutes.
Vanilla and aromatic botanicals.
Natural beeswax, plant oils, and butters.

For these ingredients, proximity is not our only measure of quality.

We choose according to purity, character, performance, and the way an ingredient becomes part of the finished ritual.

A body oil should absorb beautifully and leave the skin nourished. A botanical should retain its natural character. A candle should melt slowly and glow warmly.

We work with trusted suppliers and seek ingredients that meet the standard of the object we are trying to create.

We source according to what an ingredient is meant to become.

Made in Small Batches

The human hand
matters.

Mana Cacao is made in small batches, allowing us to stay close to the process from beginning to end.

Cacao is blended for texture and flavor.
Botanical oils are composed for the way they feel on the skin.
Honey is slowly combined with cacao and macadamia.
Candles are poured with attention to scent, texture, and burn.

There is something valuable about remaining close enough to notice.

Small-batch making gives us room to taste, adjust, refine, and respond to the materials in front of us rather than simply repeating a process at the fastest pace possible.

It keeps craft personal.

For this stage of Mana Cacao, we choose to stay close to the making.

Our Standard

Made to be worthy
of the ritual.

From cacao grown here on Kauaʻi to ingredients sourced from trusted producers farther from home, every choice begins with the same question:

Does this belong in something we would be proud to make, use, and share?

We look for ingredients with integrity. Materials that feel beautiful in the hand. Flavors and aromas that invite you to slow down and notice.

And then we bring them together here on Kauaʻi, in small batches, with care for the details that turn ingredients into an experience.

Thoughtfully sourced.
Carefully made.
Created for the rituals of everyday life.
